| Brits Flocking To Plastic Surgeons
The number of people undergoing liposuction has soared by 90% in just one year - prompting experts to warn it is not a solution to obesity. The operation has jumped from being the eighth most popular cosmetic procedure in 2005 to the third most popular in 2006, behind breast and eyelid surgery. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), which represents about two-thirds of the cosmetic surgery market sector, said it recorded 3,986 liposuctions as having been carried out last .
Hyatt Regency to have $16.4 million facelift
The Hyatt Regency Lexington is getting a $16.4 million facelift that will make it "the premier convention hotel in the state of Kentucky," Hyatt General Manager Larry Bell announced yesterday. All areas of the 365-room hotel, located downtown in the same complex as Rupp Arena and the Lexington Convention Center, will be renovated beginning this spring and concluding in mid-2008, Bell said. Architectural plans for the lobby, restaurant, bars and other public areas are incomplete, but guest rooms will be refitted with Hyatt Grand Beds, mahogany furniture, ergonomic chairs, cordless phones, high-speed Internet access, 32-inch high- definition flat-panel televisions, iHome clock radios with iPod docks and Hyatt Grand Showers in the bathrooms. One floor will be done at a time so guests will not be disturbed, Bell said.
Fido, at least, can now lose some weight
In a culture fueled by double stacks, baskets of fries and extra large soft drinks on the go, it's good to know at least Fido will be able to stay thin in 2007. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently approved the world's first weight-loss drug for your canine companions. The drug, Slentrol, should significantly reduce you pet's appetite and increase fat absorption. That means less whining from Fido for food, and less guilt from you for not complying with the beseeching. "This is a welcome addition to animal therapies, because dog obesity appears to be increasing," said Stephen Sundlof, director of the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine. "Veterinarians are well aware that overweight pets are at a higher risk of developing various health problems, from cardiovascular conditions to diabetes to joint problems." That's right.
Has Hilton Damaged Her Eyelids
Hotel heiress PARIS HILTON reportedly visited a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles earlier this week (begs15JAN07) in a bid to fix her 'drooping' left eyelid. The 25-year-old was allegedly left with muscle damage in her left eye after a botched eyelid lift operation six years ago (01), and the damage has reportedly been worsened by her fondness for wearing blue-tinted contact lenses over her naturally brown eyes. A source tells PageSix.com, "(Her eyes) have been drying out lately. She is ignoring doctors' orders to not wear her tinted contacts." However, Hilton's representative ELLIOT MINTZ denies the rumours, insisting, "To the best of my knowledge, Paris has never had any kind of cosmetic surgery and has not mentioned any medical procedures having to do with her eyes." 19/01/2007 17:10 Also see: PARIS HILTON ELLIOT MINTZ .
